What’s different about refinancing a car loan in Alabama
Vehicle titles in Alabama are issued by the Alabama Department of Revenue, Motor Vehicle Division.
When a vehicle loan is satisfied and the lienholder holds the Alabama certificate of title, that lienholder must execute a release of its security interest within ten days after demand and mail or deliver the certificate and release to the next lienholder named on it, or, if none, to the owner.
Source: Code of Alabama Section 32-8-64, Release of Security Interest (Alabama Legislature)
When a lienholder transfers a lien to a different lienholder and there is no transfer of ownership, Alabama requires form MVT 20-1 to be completed to record the new lienholder's interest on the Alabama certificate of title, and the owner names and the original lien date cannot be changed.
Under the Alabama Consumer Credit Act, when a consumer credit debt is paid in full before the final scheduled payment date the debtor may do so without penalty, and the creditor must refund or credit unearned finance charge, a refund requirement that applies where the contract carries a precomputed or prepaid finance charge.
After a borrower defaults, an Alabama secured party may take possession of the vehicle either pursuant to judicial process or without judicial process, but repossession taken without a court order is permitted only if the creditor proceeds without breach of the peace.
In an Alabama consumer-goods transaction such as a car loan, the notice a creditor sends before selling repossessed collateral must describe any deficiency liability of the person notified and must give a telephone number from which the amount required to redeem the vehicle is available.
An Alabama debtor may redeem repossessed collateral by tendering fulfillment of all obligations secured by the collateral plus reasonable expenses and attorney's fees, and redemption may occur at any time before the secured party disposes of the collateral, contracts to dispose of it, or accepts it in satisfaction.

These are general procedural facts about Alabama, not advice about your loan. Rules change, and your lender’s own process may add steps — a licensed specialist can tell you what applies to your situation.
